Children's Educational Program - Awareness Campaign

ImageWe are happy to announce our recent collaboration with San Francisco's Jones Memorial United Methodist Church on the creation of the JUMP / PREP promotional video for Youth Accelerated Learning. The program is an after school tutorial program and it represents an integrated approach to teaching children how to learn better.

The project will help the JUMP / PREP program leadership raise greater awareness of their efforts in the community, draw attention to their innovative and dynamic approach to learning, and secure funding for their effort to expand the program while at the same time become more sustainable.

The children in the program perform at higher levels as compared to children that do not. Educators benefit in a number of ways including: less stress in the teaching environment, greater student classroom participation, elevated student confidence, and higher levels of interest in classwork on the part of the students.

Additionally, because students have a greater appreciation for learning, they are much more likely to retain lessons, share what they have learned with other students -- and family -- and develop better study habits.

We are pleased to announce the Imageworking collaboration between Vital Life Services (VLS) and MindWorks Net to develop a promotional package for VLS, a community service provider. The package will be used in support of VLS community awareness and fund raising efforts.

Newly relocated into the old Your Black Muslim Bakery, and completely renovated to better serve the community, the organization is a community facing service provider. VLS has been offering services to disadvantaged and under-served members of the community for more than 20 years.

ImageThe VLS leadership team is developing an innovative strategy to create greater self-sustainability, and has partnered with MindWorks Net for the filmed portion of the endeavor. The partnership represents another effort in support of the MindWorks Net vision to help create lasting/positive benefits to the community.

After six months of development and sorting through auditions from members of our local community, the MindWorks team has completed principal shooting of its next film project. The project, made possible by a grant from the Elmhurst District Weed & Seed Initiative brought together the local citizenry, youth, the police, and academia and was shot in and around the Elmhurst district.

"Secrets & Sorrow" tackles the impact of violence on our Youth, and how it is manifest in our community. The thirty-minute featurette stars up and coming local acting talent and is guaranteed to stimulate much needed dialog around violence prevention and intervention.

The month of October is filled with opportunities to raise Imageawareness around Violence Prevention/Intervention and we are excited by the prospect of using this project to draw attention not only to what happens in many communities, but -- more importantly -- what we can do to prevent violence.

Stay tuned for updates and more scene snapshots.

Dedoceo Habi presented his film, fearful TRUTH to a convention of over 250 United Methodist Church leaders at the 41st Annual Meeting of the Black Methodist For Church Renewal event in Los Angeles.

The film was well received and sparked powerful conversations around the role of the Church in the fight to end HIV/AIDS.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters was the keynote speaker and stressed that Churches must recognize the power they have in the community and must be part of the solution in reclaiming our communities.

MindWorks Net has graciously accepted a grant offered by the Elmhurst Weed and Seed Initiative to select up to three students from a local High School to produce their story on film. The final product will be presented at the school and other neighborhood centers to inform the community on the issues and problems with crime prevention in the community, and what can be done to make things better. Student participants will be exposed to the film making process and will accompany staff to editing sessions, as applicable. We will air the final project on local televised programming.
